My Hair Story

The History of my Hair and Journey to Healthy Natural Hair.

My Hair Story is a bit different from the ones you may be used to hearing/reading.
I had natural hair up until I was 10years old and got my first ever relaxer. My hair looked great for a month then it began to break and in the end my mom cut off all the relaxed ends. I kept my hair natural for another 4 years till I was 14 when once again I tried a relaxer. I made the decision to go back to natural hair in June of 2007 and transitioned till February 2008 when I did my Big Chop (BC).

Unfortunately, after I did my last BC I had no clue what to do with my hair. The corn rows and beaded braids I had done as a kid no longer looked age appropriate and were just not grown enough. I spent about a year in weaves after my big chop, then started rocking twists with my own hair. Back then I had no clue what products to use and I didn't think it really mattered. Now, a few years later, I can see that not knowing what to use was not good for my hair and I'm slowly but surely getting myself back on the track towards healthy hair.

I have spent more years of my life with natural hair than I have with relaxed hair and I like the simplicity and versatility of natural hair.

I would Love to hear your hair story. If you would like it published here on Naturally Afrikan Hair send me an e-mail with 2 or more photos of your hair and I'll put it up. If you're not sure what to write you can use the following questions as a guide line.
